We for You | Daily Reflection | *by Maryam* ❤️

Assalamu Alaikum dear Brothers and Sisters. 🌿I hope you are all feeling well InshaAllah.

A very warm welcome to all our newly joined members!

Today I wanted to reflect on a saying many of us have heard:

“If you have nothing good to say, it is better to say nothing.”

There is wisdom in this, but I think it is also important to understand what it actually means.

The Prophet pbuh said:

“Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should speak good or remain silent.”
(Bukhari & Muslim)

But speaking good does not mean that we should only say pleasant things.

Sometimes the good thing to say is something difficult.

From a psychological perspective, constantly keeping quiet about things that hurt us, suppressing our feelings or avoiding difficult conversations can eventually create resentment, emotional distance and misunderstanding.

So if something is bothering you -*speak.*

If somebody’s behaviour has hurt you -*communicate it.*

If you need something - learn to express that need.

If you need to establish a boundary -*say it.*

But there is a difference between expressing what we feel and simply saying something hurtful because we are angry.

Before speaking, we can ask ourselves:

What am I trying to achieve with these words?

Am I trying to explain how I feel and improve the situation?

Or am I trying to criticise, embarrass, punish or hurt another person?

Not every thought that comes into our mind needs to come out of our mouth.
But at the same time, silence should not become a way of abandoning our own voice.

Islam teaches us to guard our tongue, but it also teaches us honesty, justice and standing for what is right.

Perhaps the lesson is not simply “say something nice or stay quiet.”

Perhaps it is:

Say what needs to be said -but learn to say it with truth, wisdom and kindness. ❤️

Sometimes wisdom is remaining silent.

And sometimes wisdom is having the courage to speak. 🌿

May Allah SWT help us recognise the difference and make our words beneficial to ourselves and to others. 🤲🏻❤️
