We for You | Daily Reflection | *by Maryam* ❤️

Salam Alaikum dear Sisters, I hope you are all feeling well, InshaAllah.🌸

Warm welcome a new sister into our group. ❤️

How often do you feel SHAME?

It is one of the most uncomfortable emotions, yet also one of the most misunderstood.
Shame can help us understand ourselves.

In psychology, shame can signal an inner conflict, a feeling that something in our actions, choices, or environment does not align with our deeper values.

In Islam, this connects to haya (modesty) which is not weakness, but a form of faith and inner awareness.

The Prophet pbuh said:*“Haya is part of faith.”* (Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim)

So feeling shame is not always a bad thing.

Sometimes, it is a protective signal, guiding you away from what does not suit your values, your dignity, or your purpose.

But *not all shame is healthy.*❣️

Psychology also distinguishes:

⚡️ Guilt (I did something wrong) is usually helpful
⚡️ Shame (I am wrong), can become harmful if internalised

In Islam, shame should be anchored to Allah SWT, not people, so we learn to see ourselves and our actions through the right lens, not through fear of others.
So there’s:

✅ Healthy shame that helps you recognise what is wrong, brings you closer to Allah SWT , and protects your dignity.

❤️‍🩹*Unhealthy shame* that comes from distorted self-perception, fear of people, or past wounds, and keeps you stuck, silent, or small.

The key is not to suppress shame, but to pause, reflect, and understand:

“What is this feeling trying to tell me?”

Is this shame guiding me toward what is right?

Or is it coming from fear, insecurity, or people’s opinions?

Islam teaches us balance:

✅ We do not act without boundaries.
✅But we also do not shrink ourselves unnecessarily.

So instead of saying : “I need to get rid of shame”.

Say:

“I will understand my shame, and let it guide me toward what is right in the sight of Allah, not in the eyes of people.”

Because true strength is not in feeling nothing, but in feeling, reflecting, and choosing with awareness.

Wishing everyone peace, awareness and wisdom.
