Salam Alaikum sisters. 🌸Hope you are feeling well.
I’m feeling that we shouldn’t forget parenting themes as well. So beside self development I’ll continue to share about kids.
A study conducted by Katie A. McLaughlin, PhD, professor of psychology at Harvard University, revealed that childhood anxiety disrupts the development of the prefrontal cortex (a region of the frontal lobe) of the brain, which is responsible for the ability to control one's actions and emotions. It also affects the child's ability to make decisions, planning, understanding of actions and consequences and increases his vulnerability to stress. It is necessary to take action if you notice the following symptoms of your child's fears or chronic anxiety:
❗ Frequent urination; ❗
Abdominal pains; ❗ Quick irritation; ❗ Closure; ❗Sleep disorders; ❗ Speech disorders; ❗Fear of people and avoidance of social situations; ❗ Reluctance to go to school or nursery.
All what is needed is to teach the child emotion regulation techniques.
LET'S COUNT THE FINGERS
The next time when your child will be feeling anxious, you can teach him/her a special breathing technique called counting fingers that will help calm mind and relax body. If your child is under five years old, this method will also helps to learn to count from 1 to 5, develop fine motor skills, learn fingers names. You can use this method as a fun and easy method for children who have trouble falling asleep at night. In addition, this way you can teach children to keep calm and breathe calmly. Ask the child to raise his hand as if to "high five". Run your index finger around the fingers of the child’s raised hand, starting with the thumb. Each time, as the index finger rises to the tip of each finger, you need to ask child inhale, and as the finger goes down towards the palm, into the groove between the fingers, he/ she needs to exhale. Do this exercise as often as you want. Remind the child to breathe with his belly. Make sure that the child's belly is soft and his shoulders are relaxed. Also ask the child to focus on his hand and how he feels his fingers. Teach him to do it by himself.
Remember, breathing should be natural and without force.
Have a nice and blessed Friday 🌸
