We for You | Daily Reflection | *by Maryam* ❤️
Salam Alaikum dear Sisters, hope you are having nice weekend and feeling well.🌸
Many years ago I came across something about myself that finally answered so many of my quiet “whys.” For most of my life I’ve barely listened to music -not because I dislike it, but because I feel so intensely when sound doesn’t match my inner state. When something is out of sync, it unsettles me. When it aligns, it feels like a voice coming from deep within.
I understood this as a form of heightened sensory sensitivity. Some hearts simply experience the world more fully: sounds, light, emotions, atmospheres, even the subtle presence of other people. And it reminded me how every soul is created with its own unique way of sensing Allah’s signs. Some of us absorb more, see more, feel more. And look around, it might even be someone close to you who feels the world this way too.
At first I wondered if this was just introversion, but I learned it’s not the same. Introversion is about where you get your energy, while sensory sensitivity is about how deeply your system processes the world. You can be introverted or extroverted and still have this trait. Sensitive people like us simply feel things more intensely -sound, emotion, energy, and the atmosphere around us -no matter our personality type.
Because of that, we may tire faster from noise, fast pace, crowds, bright lights, or too much conversation. Our inner system gathers a lot and needs time to process and release. Islam teaches us to honor our fitrah, our natural design and to care gently for the amanah of our bodies and hearts. So if you’re like this, please allow yourself silence, softness, rest, and solitude without guilt. Sakinah is a mercy from Allah SWT .
This also helped me understand something else: why I’ve always had a complicated relationship with music. In Islam, scholars differ -some caution against music because it can distract the heart or awaken desires, while others permit it if the content is pure and it doesn’t pull us away from Allah SWT . But all agree on one thing: the heart is precious, and what enters it matters. For sensitive souls, sound is not neutral - it moves us deeply, sometimes overwhelmingly.
And maybe that’s why, in our modern world, silence has become a rare luxury. Everywhere there is noise - notifications, conversations, constant motion, background music, and emotional clutter. Our minds take in more in one day than people used to absorb in weeks. No wonder silence feels like oxygen. Islam has always valued silence: the Prophet pbuh taught that silence is wisdom, a doorway to reflection, and a space where the heart can hear.
All of this came to mind today because I accidentally found that one song-the one I’ve already listened multiple times, and it still resonates. When something matches my inner state, I want to sit with it, feel it fully, and let it move through me. Not as a distraction, but almost like a translation of what’s already inside.
If any of you feel the same -the sensitivity, the need for quiet, the deep resonance with certain sounds - know that you’re not alone. We’re sharing the same gentle, reflective vibe today. 💛
