There are few questions here.
So First congratulations to people who are seeking help together, or at least one of the spouse. It helps or not, depends on people and how they willing to change and accepting information, on counselling and therapy methods, and on counsellor itself.
Second First - both sides needs, wants, desires matters in relation. And here in this group we are talking and learning how to create strong relation with kids and other people.
Recently I shared information about healthy and unhealthy conflicts. I’ll be repeating and adding more knowledge to this information. So those who recently joined don’t worry you’ll get everything.
In such case what you described I would like to ask both spouses one question:
-What does it mean family for you and are you willing to take a responsibility about yourself in first place in relation?
We all coming from different backgrounds and families with different perspectives attitudes, inner beliefs, habits ect. We all are already formatted personalities and we all above 18 years old ( I hope so). Btw prefrontal cortex ( part of the brain) formatting till 25 years old, so if a person showing immaturity in thinking and problem solving till that age it can be acceptable. We all developing differently and in our own pace.
If no physical and mental illnesses means we are capable to take a responsibility of our thoughts, feelings, actions, reactions ect.
If we decided to create family ( to marry and to have kids) means we took double responsibility to take care about ourselves + other family members.
Means IF I’M IN THE FAMILY I need to ask myself:
-Is it good with me who am I to live another person ( people) ?
I’ll repeat about emotional immaturity. Emotional immaturity is very much visible in conflicts. Non talking, silent grudge, slamming doors, moving things around loudly is a passive aggression. A passive-aggressive person may decide to punish another person by shutting down all communication instead of addressing the issue directly. Emotional immaturity has a lot to do with a child's developmental phase. Research has found that a difficult childhood without adequate parental support, or childhood abuse, could cause a person to grow into an emotionally immature adult.
So in your described situation emotional immaturity is visible and no need to be professional to understand it.
