We for You | Daily Reflection | *by Maryam* ❤️
Salam Alaikum dear Brothers and Sisters, hope you are feeling well today.
Warm welcome who recently joined. Each step you take toward learning and understanding is one step forward in your growth -as an individual, and as a couple. May Allah SWT guide every step with wisdom, mercy, and love. Ameen.
Today about LOVE.
Love is one of the greatest blessings Allah SWT has placed in our lives. It is not only a feeling, but also an action, a trust, and a responsibility.
The American psychologist Robert Sternberg describes consummate love as being made of three elements:
Passion - the physical, emotional, and sexual attraction.
Intimacy - not just sexual closeness, but a deep emotional bond: sharing thoughts, feelings, fears, and dreams; listening, comforting, holding hands, hugging, or simply being present for each other. This emotional safety allows spouses to open their hearts.
Commitment -the conscious choice to love, remain loyal, and build a future together.
This model is beneficial because it encourages us to reflect:
• Do I still feel emotionally close to my spouse, or have we grown distant?
• Do we share not only daily events but also our deeper feelings?
• Do I feel safe expressing my emotions, even when I am hurt or vulnerable?
• Are we satisfied with our intimacy -both emotional and physical - and what can we improve?
Such reflection helps us see where love is strong and where we need to nurture it more. As Sternberg himself said: “Without expression, even the greatest love may die.”
It is also important to remember that at certain stages of life - during illness, grief, financial stress, or after the birth of a child -*the passion element may temporarily fade*. This is completely normal. Love does not disappear; it is carried by intimacy and commitment, and passion can be rekindled when the time is right.
If you and your spouse face difficulties, first consider whether external pressures are affecting you. In such times, both partners may feel more irritable, more tired, even more fearful. Intimacy may suffer, not because love is gone, but because of the weight of life’s tests. Remember that intimacy can be simple: a hug, gentle touch, listening, or quiet presence. Sometimes just being there for one another says: “You are not alone. I am with you.”
Allah SWT reminds us in the Qur’an:
“And among His signs is that He created for you from yourselves mates that you may find tranquility in them, and He placed between you affection and mercy. Indeed, in that are signs for a people who reflect.”
(Surah Ar-Rum 30:21)
This verse shows us that true love in marriage is meant to bring tranquility (sakinah), strengthened by affection (mawaddah) and mercy (rahmah).
When passion, intimacy, and commitment are nurtured with gratitude, patience, and kindness, our marriages become sources of peace and blessings.
May Allah SWT bless our marriages and relationships with harmony, protect us in times of hardship, and fill our homes with mercy and love. Ameen.🤲🏻
