Salam Alaikum sisters. How are you feeling today? Sorry for not texting yesterday as I promised.
Today about MOTIVATION and how to motivate child to perform daily duties?
Do you remember the first time you tried to teach your child to tie their shoelaces?
It probably didn’t happen in one day. It took patience, a lot of repetition, and maybe even some creative methods until your little one mastered this skill.
The same goes for daily responsibilities – any age child doesn’t always know how to do them properly, and it’s our job as parents to teach them without stress or arguments.
And yes, your teenager 16 years old might not have skills how to clean his/ her room.
Why is it important to teach rather than just command?
When we simply tell a child to do something without explaining how, we often face resistance or frustration. The child may feel insecure, not knowing how to properly complete the task, or afraid of making mistakes. Teaching them step by step not only imparts knowledge but also boosts the child's self-confidence.
How to teach children to perform duties effectively:
🔹 **Demonstrate**
Show the child how to complete the task, clearly commenting on each step. For example, when teaching how to make a bed, you can say: "First, we smooth out the sheet, then we tuck it in the corners , after that..."
🔹 **Let the child try**
After the demonstration, let the child try to do the task themselves. Be nearby to help if needed.
🔹 **Provide positive feedback**
Notice and mention what the child is doing well. "Great, I love how carefully you smoothed out the sheet!"
🔹 **Offer help if needed**
If you see the child struggling, offer help, but don’t do everything for them. Ask, "Would you like me to show you how to fold the corners?"
🔹 **Break down complex tasks**
If the task seems too difficult, break it down into smaller steps. Instead of saying "Clean your room," you can say: "Let’s start by putting the toys in the box."
🔹 **Use visual aids**
Create an illustrated list of instructions to help the child remember the steps. This is especially useful for younger children.
Be patient. Remember that acquiring skills takes time.
Don’t expect perfection right away!
I’m inviting everyone to rethink:
1. What skills your kids lacking?
2. What would you like to teach them?
3. How are you planning to explain/teach? Do you have a plan? Is your plan based on your child’s natural development?
4. How are you planning to motivate kids without using rewards and punishments?
Wishing everyone a blessed Friday. ❤️
