We for You | Daily Reflection | by Maryam ❤️
Assalamu Alaikum, dear brothers and sisters 🌿
I hope you are all feeling well today.
Today I want to introduce you to an interesting concept from financial psychology: financial self-efficacy.
Self-efficacy is a psychological term describing our belief in our ability to manage a particular situation successfully. So financial self-efficacy refers to how confident we feel in our ability to manage money, make financial decisions, plan, save, deal with unexpected expenses and work towards financial goals.
Two people may have a similar income but experience their finances very differently. One may think:
“I can learn how to manage this.”
Another may think:
“I’m terrible with money. I’ll never understand finances.”
The second statement may gradually become a self-fulfilling pattern. If we believe we cannot manage money, we may avoid looking at our bank account, postpone budgeting, ignore financial paperwork or allow somebody else to make every financial decision for us. In psychology, repeatedly avoiding something because it creates discomfort is called avoidance behaviour.
Avoidance may reduce anxiety temporarily, but the financial situation remains and sometimes becomes more stressful.
So building financial confidence doesn’t necessarily begin with earning more. It begins with developing financial self-efficacy through small experiences of competence:
✅Understanding where your money goes.
✅Learning one financial skill you previously avoided.
✅Creating a realistic budget.
✅Saving a small amount consistently.
✅Asking questions when you don’t understand something.
Islamically, tawakkul does not mean passivity. We place our trust in Allah SWT while also taking responsible action with what has been entrusted to us.
🌿 Today’s reflection:
Is there an area of your finances you have been avoiding because you tell yourself, “I’m just not good with money”?
Perhaps replace it with:
“I may not know this yet, but I can learn.”
*Financial confidence is not something everyone naturally possesses. It can be developed.*🌱
May Allah SWT grant us halal rizq, barakah in what we have, wisdom in managing it and confidence to fulfil our responsibilities. Ameen. 🤲🏻
