Salam Alaikum dear Brothers and Sisters,
I hope you are all feeling well and at peace, InshaAllah.
Today, I want to open a topic that is quietly (and sometimes loudly) creating tension in many homes and on social media:
📌 Should a husband help his wife with household chores and parenting?
Online, we see many contrasting views:
• Some videos show husbands cooking, cleaning, and caring bringing joy and admiration.
• Others reveal sisters who feel exhausted and unsupported, doing everything alone.
• And some still argue that “a man’s job is only outside the house.”
But as Muslims, let’s return to the greatest example we have-
The life of our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
🌿 What the sunnah teaches us
The Prophet ﷺ helped with household chores, mended his own clothes, and served his family, not out of obligation, but out of love, humility, and mercy.
“The best of you are those who are best to their families.”
(Tirmidhi)
He was a leader, a teacher, a warrior and a husband at home.
His example teaches us: being active outside the house does not excuse neglect inside the home. He maintained balance.
🧠 Modern psychology now echoes what our deen has always taught:
❤️Couples who share household duties build stronger emotional bonds.
❤️When both partners feel seen and supported, there is less resentment and more peace.
❤️Mutual respect and cooperation significantly reduce stress and emotional burnout , especially for women.
⚖️ My personal reflection - this is not about fixed roles or copying others, it’s about balance, awareness, and truly seeing each other’s needs and whole family needs.
Every household is unique. The real question is:
Are we supporting each other?
💬 To the Brothers:
Helping your wife is not a “favor.” It is Sunnah, it is leadership, and it is love.
Even small acts like participating in general house cleaning on the weekend, bathing kids or reading for them in the evening and letting wife to rest bring barakah and build connection.
Your strength is not in how loud you speak but in how gently you support and uplift.
💬 To the Sisters:
Communicate with compassion.
Asking for help kindly, appreciating efforts, and speaking with love can open doors rather than close them.
Avoid comparing your husband to others. Every man has his own rhythm and capacity.
See him as he is. Understand him. Grow with him.
❤️Couples should see each other’s struggles, communicate openly, and face challenges as a team.
Your spouse is not your parent, your friend’s husband, or a character from social media. They are your amanah.
*Make agreements. Divide tasks. Be there for each other.
Most importantly communicate your needs with love and clarity.*
In a home built on rahma (mercy) and shura (mutual consultation), husband and wife uplift, support, and grow together.
Let’s move beyond cultural expectations and viral social media trends.
Let’s follow the Prophetic model: balanced, responsible, compassionate.
✅ Don’t expect perfection.
✅ Don’t expect mind-reading.
✅ And most of all - don’t expect, give instead.
Give from a place of love, not as a transaction.
Ask with gentleness, not demand.
Support one another not because it’s required but because it’s an act of ibadah.
And Alhamdulillah we all have minds and hearts to create a peaceful, intentional life.
May Allah SWT fill our homes with barakah, compassion, and mutual understanding. Ameen.❤️🤲🏻
