We for You | Daily Reflection | *by Maryam* ❤️
Salam Alaikum dear Brothers and Sisters.
I hope you are all feeling well, InshaAllah.
Today I would like to remind us about HYGIENE, not physical hygiene, not wudu or showering , but emotional and inner hygiene.
Just as we take care of our physical cleanliness daily, Islam also calls us to take care of the cleanliness of the heart.
When we do not wash our bodies, we know the consequences: dirt builds up, unpleasant smells appear, unbrushed teeth lead to decay. In the same way, when we neglect our emotions, something similar happens inside the heart.
For many of us, it is something we were never taught or never named.
In relationships and marriages, emotional dirt can quietly build up between two people.
Small misunderstandings turn into silent resentment.
Unspoken pain becomes emotional distance. Rumination replaces communication.
Over time, couples stop seeing each other clearly.
They react to old pain, not the present moment. This is why couples need regular emotional cleansing, just as much as physical cleanliness.
Emotional hygiene is the regular practice of:
✅Cleaning unresolved emotions
✅Releasing negative thoughts
✅Letting go of resentment, anger, and hurt
✅Preventing emotional “dirt” from building up in the heart
Emotional “dirt” accumulates when:
✅Feelings are suppressed instead of expressed
✅Hurt is ignored instead of addressed
✅Anger is stored instead of released
✅Forgiveness is delayed
✅Communication is avoided
Just like physical dirt, emotional dirt does not disappear on its own. *Each day, we need to care for ourselves and our emotional hygiene.*❗️⚠️
Emotional Hygiene for Couples Includes:
✅Honest conversations
✅Gentle accountability ( ask yourself “Did I show mercy and ensure peace and tranquillity at home?”)
✅Expressing feelings without blame
✅Apologising and forgiving
✅Letting go of what no longer serves the relationship
*Cleaning the heart together restores closeness.*❗️
We all are taught that hearts can rust, and that the remembrance of Allah SWT cleans them.
The Prophet pbuh taught that there should be no harming and no reciprocating harm, emotionally or physically.
Islam does not encourage suppressing pain. It encourages reflection, repentance, forgiveness, boundaries, and mercy.
Taking care of your emotional state is part of your amanah (trust) from Allah SWT .
A heart filled with resentment cannot find tranquillity. But a heart cleaned with honesty and remembrance can heal.
And One Simple Exercise to Release Emotions (Daily -2 Minutes)
This is like daily wudu for the heart and can be practised a few times a day.
1. Pause and take a slow breath.
2. Name one emotion you are carrying.
3. Say quietly:
“Ya Allah, I release this emotion to You. Clean my heart.”
4. Repeat Astaghfirullah or SubhanAllah a few times.
5. Choose one thing to let go of, especially before sleep.
6. Name one thing you are grateful for the moment/today.
As part of this cleansing, it is important to remember boundaries.
*Emotional hygiene does not mean tolerating abuse.*‼️
Islam never asks us to accept emotional, verbal, or physical harm.
Setting personal boundaries and seeking support when harm exists is strength, not weakness.
If couples cannot solve the problem themselves, they should seek support from an imam, a wise elder, or a professional psychologist.
Just as you would never neglect washing your body,
do not neglect washing your heart daily. Clean hearts connect better, forgive more easily,
and find peace.
May Allah SWT grant us clean hearts, clear minds, gentle speech, and relationships filled with mercy and understanding.🤲🏻
