We for You | Daily Reflection | *by Maryam* ❤️
Salam Alaikum dear sisters. Hope you all are feeling well.🌸
Today is Thursday, a blessed day to pause, breathe, and honor the bodies Allah SWT has entrusted to us.
As women, we move through the seasons of life, spring, summer, autumn, and winter, and our bodies transform with every phase. During pregnancy especially, our bodies work with incredible wisdom, creating life with systems Allah SWT designed long before we were born.
Many women know and focus on hemoglobin, the glucose tolerance test, or iron.
But today is not about them.
There is one very informative, often forgotten test that reveals something deeper -whether your body is actually using the essential B-vitamins:
• B9 (folate) – needed for the baby’s neural tube development
• *B12*– crucial for DNA synthesis and energy
• B6 – supports the nervous system and healthy tissue growth
These vitamins are like the building blocks of life.
Allah SWT has placed these nutrients in many foods that nourish both mother and baby:
🥦*B9 (folate)*: leafy greens (spinach, kale), lentils, beans, avocado
🥚*B12*: eggs, meat, fish - especially important for women who eat little or no animal products
🍌*B6*: bananas, potatoes, poultry, whole grains, chickpeas.
During pregnancy the need increases, so even if a woman eats well, her body may still struggle to absorb or activate these vitamins. This is why some women take supplements but:
❌Sometimes the vitamins are in the wrong form
❌Sometimes the body cannot absorb them
❌And standard blood tests may miss the real deficiency.
🌸 So one marker that reveals the truth is HOMOCYSTEINE.
You may also come across products like Homocysteine Factors or Homocysteine Supreme, dear sisters, but these are not homocysteine itself - they are blends of B-vitamins designed to support its metabolism, and should only be used if advised by a healthcare provider.
*When homocysteine is elevated, it often means the body is not receiving or converting these vitamins properly*‼️ -
even when B12 or folate appear “normal”.
Homocysteine is one of the most sensitive indicators of functional vitamin status -*showing what’s happening inside the cells, not just in the bloodstream.*
Homocysteine is checked through a simple blood test, just like any other routine bloodwork.
The optimal level is around 5–7.5 μmol/L (not up to 25, as some lab reference ranges suggest).
Expecting sisters, please ask your healthcare provider about this blood test, especially if you are experiencing symptoms like the ones shown in the picture. And all sisters, in general, can discuss checking homocysteine with their healthcare provider if they have concerns or symptoms.
Wishing everyone a good health and don’t forget your body’s symptoms are signals, and they carry meaning. Listen to them with compassion, and trust that caring for yourself is also an act of worship.❤️🌸
